Bang! Bang! Eche! is the musical project of Australian-born T'Nealle Worsley, aided by a revolving team of session musicians. The band started playing shows in early 2007.[1]
Towards the end of 2007, Worlsey wrote and recorded a self titled demo EP. The debut EP was a success, especially in America, after placing in the Top 5 Most Added Albums on US College Radio. [2] It was boosted by rotation on US radio station KEXP,[3] mostly with single "4 To The Floor". The EP also received medium/heavy rotation on Australian network Triple J,[4] and two number one songs ("4 To The Floor" and "Nikee") on the alternative New Zealand b.net radio network. The songs "4 To The Floor" and "Time Mismanagement" were also in the NZ Industry Radioscope chart for 21 weeks in 2008, peaking at #3 and #2 respectively.[5]
In late 2008, the band toured the USA and Europe. While in the US, the band played the CMJ festival in New York City, including a live-to-air in-studio on KEXP.[6] This performance became Podcast of the Day, and was included in KEXP's top 5 performances of CMJ (along with Fujiya & Miyagi, Lykke Li, Vivian Girls and Broken Social Scene). It then became Video of the Week.[7] Prior to this performance, "4 To The Floor" was rated as Song of the Day on 17 October 2008.[8] The video for "4 To The Floor" was released at the start of 2009.[9]
2009 saw the band tour Australia, Europe and the United States extensively. This included slots at many festivals including Rhythm and Vines,[10] Big Day Out,[11] Homegrown Music Festival, South By Southwest,[12] The Great Escape,[13] and CMJ[14] for the second consecutive year.
The video for "(You & Me) As Thick As Thieves" was released in September 2009.[15]
In November 2009, the band released the "Sonic Death Cuntttt" EP,[16] featuring songs recorded in between touring of that year. The lead single "Fist Full Of Dollars" was immediately both Download of the Day on NME.com[17] and Song of the Day on KEXP.org.[18] The second single "You're A Jerk" placed in the NZ Radioscope chart for 9 weeks, peaking at #1.[19] "Fist Full Of Dollars", and 3rd single "Dirt In The Water" also placed in the Radioscope charts for 11 and 5 weeks respectively.[20]
In 2010, the band toured the United States and Europe for three months[21] before starting work on their debut album, which the band has described as sounding like "a cross between Gaga and Jimmy Eat World doing Caribou covers while sitting on a beach in Spain reading Cosmo, and getting rained on with Benjamins by 20 Austrian women all called Vonjya - with the timelessness of Springsteen, but the now-ability of Miley on gack".[22]
While playing at SXSW 2010, the band signed a publishing deal with Native Tongue Music Publishing. They issued a statement claiming that together, they planned to "make mad fucking bank like when JT made that McDonalds jingle".[23]
The band was chosen as one of The 25 Best New Bands In The World by MTV in 2010.[24]
In January 2011 the band performed at Big Day Out, an annual music festival held in several cities in Australia and New Zealand
